Responsible Use

We are a simulation tool, not a sportsbook. This page covers the specific ways our numbers can mislead, and where to get help if gambling has stopped being fun.

1.What SportzPRED is, and what it is not

SportzPRED is a simulation tool. You describe a basketball scenario, it runs thousands of simulated versions of it, and it shows you the distribution of outcomes. That is the whole product.

  • We do not accept wagers.
  • We do not hold, transfer or process funds.
  • We are not a sportsbook, a broker, an affiliate or a tipping service.
  • We do not tell you to bet on anything.

Because our output is presented in the language of betting markets — lines, prices, break-even probabilities, edges — it can be used to inform gambling decisions. That is why this page exists.

2.A good model is still wrong a lot of the time

The most important sentence on this page

A well-calibrated 60% is supposed to lose four times out of ten. When it does, the model was not broken and you did nothing clever or stupid — that is the number working correctly.

Calibration means the stated probabilities match observed frequencies over the long run. It does not mean any individual projection is right, and it says nothing at all about the next game. A model that is accurate in the aggregate will still produce long losing runs, and those runs feel exactly like the model being broken.

Confidence in a number is not the same as confidence in an outcome. The distribution we show you is a statement about uncertainty. Reading its median as “what will happen” throws away the only genuinely useful thing the tool produces.

3.How to misread a SportzPRED number

These are specific, known limits of our own output. We would rather you learn them here than expensively.

“Playable edge” is a threshold, not a green light

The Over/Under panels label a probability edge under 2% as “no bet”, 2–4% as a “small lean”, and 4% or more as a “playable edge”. Those cutoffs are fixed numbers we chose to filter noise. Crossing 4% does not mean a bet is good — it means the model's probability differs from the price by more than our noise floor, assuming the model is well calibrated for that player in that spot. It is not always.

The model does not know what happened this morning

Projections are built from data refreshed on a schedule. A late scratch, a coach's announcement, a rest decision, a trade, a personal matter — none of it is in the numbers until the data catches up. The market usually knows first. If a line looks wildly wrong, the most likely explanation is that the market has information the model does not.

Combo Props intervals are narrower than reality

Combo Props combines stats by resampling each one independently and adding them. Real player stats are correlated — a night with more scoring is often a night with more shots and more touches. Because correlated quantities vary together, the true spread is wider than the one we display. Treat combo ranges as a floor on the uncertainty.

The scenario is yours, and so are its assumptions

Minutes, opposing starters and defensive assignment are inputs you control, and they move the projection substantially. It is very easy — without meaning to — to assemble the scenario that produces the answer you were hoping for. If you find yourself adjusting minutes upward until the edge appears, you are no longer modelling, you are decorating a decision you already made.

A different seed gives a different number

Results are reproducible for a given seed, not identical across seeds. If an edge vanishes when you change the seed, it was simulation noise, not a finding. This is a free and very fast sanity check, and almost nobody runs it.

4.Staying in control

If you do gamble, a few habits do more than any model can:

  • Decide the amount before you look at anything. Set a limit you would be genuinely fine losing, and treat it as the cost of entertainment rather than an investment.
  • Never chase losses. Raising your stake to recover a loss is the single most reliable way to turn a bad night into a serious problem.
  • Do not gamble with money you need — rent, food, bills, credit, or anything borrowed.
  • Set limits with your sportsbook, not with willpower. Licensed operators offer deposit caps, loss limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. Turn them on while you are calm; they work precisely because you cannot easily undo them later.
  • Keep a clear head. Avoid gambling when drinking, upset, bored or chasing a feeling rather than a decision.
  • Track everything, including the losses. Memory is systematically generous about wins. A written record is not.
  • Take real breaks. Whole days without a bet are a good test of whether you are choosing this.

5.Warning signs

Gambling has stopped being entertainment if any of these sound familiar. This is not a diagnosis — it is a prompt to talk to someone qualified.

  • Betting more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
  • Betting more to win back what you have lost.
  • Borrowing money, selling things, or using money meant for something else.
  • Lying to family, friends or anyone else about how much you gamble.
  • Feeling restless, irritable or anxious when you try to cut down or stop.
  • Gambling to escape stress, low mood, loneliness or boredom.
  • Neglecting work, study, relationships, sleep or health because of it.
  • Thinking about the next bet constantly, even when you are not gambling.
  • Feeling guilt, shame or panic afterwards — and doing it again anyway.

7.Blocking and self-exclusion tools

Because we do not take bets, we cannot exclude you from anything you would lose money on. The tools that actually work sit with operators, banks and your own devices:

  • Operator self-exclusion. Licensed sportsbooks are generally required to offer it, and many jurisdictions run a single register that covers every licensed operator at once.
  • Bank-level gambling blocks. Many banks and card issuers can block gambling transactions outright, often with a delay before the block can be lifted.
  • Blocking software. Tools such as Gamban, GamBlock and BetBlocker restrict access to gambling sites and apps across your devices. BetBlocker is free.

If you would find it helpful not to see this site either, your browser or device site-blocking settings can include it.

8.Age and legality

You must be at least 18 to use SportzPRED. Sports wagering carries a higher minimum age in many places — 21 in most US states that permit it — and you must meet whichever age applies to you.

Gambling law varies enormously between countries, states and provinces, and in some places it is prohibited outright. Knowing and following the law where you are is your responsibility, not ours. Availability of this site is not an indication that gambling is legal in your jurisdiction. See our Terms of Service for the full position.

9.Contact

Questions about this page, or a concern about how SportzPRED presents its output, reach us at support@sportzpred.com. We would genuinely rather hear that something reads as a recommendation than have it keep reading that way.

We cannot provide counselling or clinical support. Please use the services in clause 6 for that — they are far better at it than we would be.
